MY DESIGN IDEAS AND ADVICE
These cosy socks use the same cable and rib stitch pattern as the Bempton Jumper and Bempton Mittens – one of my absolute favourites.
Knitted in aran weight yarn, they’re a great choice for beginners looking to try sock knitting, as they knit up more quickly than finer sock yarns. Perfect for keeping your toes toasty on chilly evenings, whether you’re curled up with a book, your knitting or just enjoying some quiet time. Warm, comforting and a joy to knit and wear.
CONSTRUCTION
Knitted on double pointed needles in the round in one piece from the cuff down.
TECHNIQUES USED
Cast on, knit, purl, double pointed needles, in the round, one simple cable, decreasing, grafting stitches together. Optional but recommended to create the feeling of joy when joining your stitches: three needle cast off.
YARN
Two 100g hank of WYS Croft Shetland Aran.
100% Shetland wool, 166m/182yds per 100g
SUGGESTED KNITTING NEEDLES
4.5mm double pointed.
Cable needle.
GAUGE (tension)
20 stitches and 26 rows to 10cm square over cable pattern when slightly stretched. I obtained this gauge with 4.5mm needles.
It is important to obtain gauge so do swatch and change your needle size to achieve the correct gauge if you need to.
SIZE
To fit UK size 5 or desired foot length as highlighted in the pattern.
