MY DESIGN IDEAS AND ADVICE
This hat is knitted on straight needles and uses my favourite stitch pattern for self-striping yarns. It’s my favourite because it’s so simple to knit – one of the rows is just purl – yet with a few clever increases and decreases, you create a chevron look without ever having to change colour. The yarn does all the work for you!
It’s the perfect relaxing knit and, at the end of all those soothing stitches, you’ve got a cosy hat to keep your head (and therefore your body) at just the right temperature. If you are a knitter, or know a knitter, you’ll always have a warm head.
CONSTRUCTION
The hat is knitted in one piece from the bottom up.
TECHNIQUES USED
Cast on, knit, purl, simple lace chevron pattern, decreasing.
YARN
One 100g ball of WYS Signature 4 ply
75% wool & 25% nylon, 400m/437yds per 100g
The hat used 35g/140m of the 100g ball.
SUGGESTED KNITTING NEEDLES
3.25mm
GAUGE (tension)
26 stitches and 34 rows to 10cm square over stocking stitch. I obtained this gauge with 3.25mm needles.
It is important to obtain gauge so do swatch and change your needle size to achieve the correct gauge if you need to.
SIZE AND FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
To fit small to average adult head due to the nature of the rib pattern & individual gauges the finished circumference can vary from 48cm to 54cm.
