Description

MY DESIGN IDEAS AND ADVICE
A simple, stylish hat that’s perfect for using up sock weight yarn. The Vesey Hat is knitted in the round – so no seams to sew up – and is ideal for anyone looking to try something a little different with their sock yarn stash.

We start on 3.25mm (40cm) circular needles, then switch to 3.25mm double-pointed needles (dpns) to shape the crown. The pattern includes clear guidance on how many stitches to place on each dpn, making this a great project for those new to knitting in the round or looking to build confidence.

I designed this because a knitter asked me to – she’d made socks for everyone she knew and wanted something else to knit with her leftover yarn!

CONSTRUCTION
Knitted in the round in one piece from the bottom up.

TECHNIQUES USED
Cast on, knit, purl, decreasing, knitting in the round on a circular needle and double pointed needles.

YARN
One 100g hank of WYS Signature 4 Ply.
75% British Bluefaced Leicester wool, 25% Nylon, 400m/437yds per 100g

SUGGESTED KNITTING NEEDLES
3mm and 3.25mm circular needles (40cm length)
Set of 4 double pointed 3.25mm needles.

GAUGE (tension)
26 stitches and 34 rows to 10cm square over stocking stitch. I obtained this gauge with 3.25mm needles.
It is important to obtain gauge so do swatch and change your needle size to achieve the correct gauge if you need to.

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
To fit adult head. Due to the nature of the rib pattern & individual gauges the finished circumference can vary from 42cm to 50cm.
If the knitter gets the gauge as above the finished circumference will be approx. 46cm.
