For this pattern I used:
Yarn & Amounts for short version: Two 50g balls of Mohair Tweed (70% merino & 30% mohair, 110m/120yds per 50g)
Yarn & Amounts for long version: One 50g ball of Mohair Tweed in shade A (shade 2605 Grey Alder) and two 50g balls of Mohair Tweed in shade B (shade 2625 Golden Ash).
Metres for short version: approx. 200m.
Metres for long version in shade A: approx. 200m.
Metres for long version in shade B: approx. 40m.
My Alternative Yarn Suggestions & Amounts: WYS Illustrious Naturals DK One 100g hank for short version, or Bo Beep Pure DK, One 50g ball in shade A and Two 50g Balls in shade B.
Needles: Set of four double pointed 3.25mm knitting needles.
Notions: Cable needle (optional).
Gauge (tension): 22 stitches and 30 rows to 10cm square over stocking stitch when using 3.25mm needles.
Measurements: to fit UK size 4-5 (or desired foot length as highlighted in the pattern. If you are knitting the foot length longer than size 6 then you will need a 3rd ball of shade A).
My design ideas and advice: This pattern is one of eight pattern that I designed to launch especially at Yarndale 2017 along with the Mohair Tweed which was also just launched that year. The yarn is spun in Donegal so I named all the patterns using Irish words, Gael (pronounced gale) is the Irish word for an Irish person or a Scottish highlander – the essence of identity.
I love the cable on this sock, it’s one of my favourites and I have used it on a few designs so far – one is the Farrimond Cardigan from my Simple Knits book and then on Farrimond’s Cushion and on Craic Mittens.
