MY DESIGN IDEAS AND ADVICE
As the mornings turn chilly from autumn to winter, it can be hard to judge just how cold it really is when the sun is shining. That’s when these mittens come into their own.
One of the joys of this pattern is that you can knit it in so many different natural fibres – and there are plenty to choose from here at Purl &Jane. I’ve made a pair in Knoll Mohair Tweed using two colourful shades, and another in natural undyed shades from WYS, both of which turned out beautifully.
Cashmere also works wonderfully – it’s luxuriously soft, light as a feather and feels like a second skin while keeping your hands perfectly warm. Bluefaced Leicester DK (sometimes called the “British cashmere”) is another lovely option that shows off the simplicity of the design.
These mittens are simple and easy to knit, letting the yarn speak for itself – whichever fibre you choose.
CONSTRUCTION
Knitted flat from the bottom up in one piece with one side seam, leaving space for the thumb.
