Description

MY DESIGN IDEAS AND ADVICE
These socks been on my design list for years – I’ve always loved the idea of brightly coloured yarn peeking out over the top of trainers or brogues, depending on where you’re heading and how you like to wear your socks and shoes!

The ridge stitch pattern is one of my favourites. You might recognise it from some of my other designs – the Tra Socks in DK, the Tra Mittens, the Lee Scarf, the Sedgwick Jumper for adults, and the Danny Brow Jumper for children, to name just a few.

I called them Styx because in mythology she was the mother of the Goddess Nike – and I’ll be wearing my Styx Socks in my trainers!

CONSTRUCTION
Knitted on double pointed needles in the round in one piece from the cuff down.

TECHNIQUES USED
Cast on, knit, purl, double pointed needles, in the round, decreasing, grafting stitches together. Optional but recommended to create the feeling of joy when joining your stitches: three needle cast off.

YARN
One 100g ball of 4 ply yarn.
These socks took 192m/45g

SUGGESTED KNITTING NEEDLES
2.5mm set of four double pointed needles.

GAUGE (tension)
30 stitches and 40 rows to 10cm square over stocking stitch. I obtained this gauge with 2.5mm needles.
It is important to obtain gauge so do swatch and change your needle size to achieve the correct gauge if you need to.

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
UK size 4-5. However this pattern fits all foot sizes by knitting to desired foot length as highlighted in the pattern.
