MY DESIGN IDEAS AND ADVICE
My design idea behind these socks was the white socks we used to wear at school. I thought it would be fun to recreate these but in a new way!
These socks have a simple lace rib on the front to create a delicate detail. Hand knit socks arenthe ultimate luxury, and even more so when using natural fibres, as they have the magical ability to regulate your body temperature – so your feet will always be just the right temperature, and you’ll feel comfortable all over.
I knitted mine in the gorgeously soft but sadly discontinued Purl &Jane Cuckoo Cashmere 4 ply. The finished socks are so light and soft that when you put them on, it feels like walking on clouds. They are also the perfect project for darker evenings, as the yarn feels deliciously smooth and comforting while you knit – soothing for your hands now, and for your feet once the socks are finished!
CONSTRUCTION
Knitted on double pointed needles in the round in one piece from the cuff down.
TECHNIQUES USED
Cast on, knit, purl, double pointed needles, in the round, decreasing, lace technique, grafting stitches together. Optional but recommended to create the feeling of joy when joining your stitches: three needle cast off.
YARN
One 100g ball of 4 ply yarn.
The socks knitted for a UK size 5 took 200m.
SUGGESTED KNITTING NEEDLES
2.5mm set of four double pointed needles.
GAUGE (tension)
30 stitches and 42 rows to 10cm square over stocking stitch. I obtained this gauge with 2.5mm needles.
It is important to obtain gauge so do swatch and change your needle size to achieve the correct gauge if you need to.
SIZE AND FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
To fit UK size 5 or desired foot length as highlighted in the pattern.
