MY DESIGN IDEAS AND ADVICE
This skinny scarf is perfect for adding colour to any outfit. The short version uses just one ball of double knit yarn, making it ideal for using up odd balls in your stash.
But what’s even more exciting than stash-busting is trying out new yarns! Because this scarf only needs one or two balls, it’s a great way to experiment with different fibres or shades. I’ve even used one ball of silk and one ball of cashmere to add a touch of luxury around my neck.
The stitch pattern is another joy – it looks a little like crochet, yet it’s knit. It might seem complicated at first glance, but once you get used to the 8-row repeat, you’ll find it’s super easy. In fact, 4 of those rows are simply knit!
CONSTRUCTION
Knitted in rows from the bottom up in one piece.
TECHNIQUES USED
Cast on, knit, purl, simple eyelet pattern, cast off.
YARN
1(2) 50g balls of Hjertegarn merino cotton dk
50% merino wool & 50% cotton, 120m/131yds per 50g
The short version took approx. 110m and the long version took approx. 220m
SUGGESTED KNITTING NEEDLES
4mm.
GAUGE (tension)
21 stitches and 32 rows to 10cm/4ins square over pattern. I obtained this gauge with 4mm needles.
It is important to obtain gauge so do swatch and change your needle size to achieve the correct gauge if you need to.
FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
9cm x approximately 90cm for the short version.
9cm x approximately 185cm for the long version.
