MY DESIGN IDEAS AND ADVICE
This pattern uses my favourite stitch for a sock – the rib pattern. The stitches do all the work, and the rib makes the sock fit your ankle perfectly.
I wanted to add some super-simple colourwork too, especially for beginners who’d like to give it a try. This is a gentle introduction, with just two shades on your needles but only one worked per row.
And for experienced knitters? Serene Socks are perfect for using up those little bits of sock yarn you’ve got left over. A sock to relax with, switch off and simply enjoy – the ultimate refresher sock!
CONSTRUCTION
Knitted on double pointed needles in the round in one piece from the cuff down.
TECHNIQUES USED
Cast on, knit, purl, double pointed needles, in the round, decreasing, grafting stitches together. Optional but recommended to create the feeling of joy when joining your stitches: three needle cast off.
YARN
2(3)* 25g balls of Jamieson’s Spindrift in shade A and One 25g ball in shade B.
100% Shetland wool, 105m/114yds per 25g
SUGGESTED KNITTING NEEDLES
3mm set of four double pointed needles.
GAUGE (tension)
28 stitches and 35 rows to 10cm square over stocking stitch. I obtained this gauge with 3mm needles.
It is important to obtain gauge so do swatch and change your needle size to achieve the correct gauge if you need to.
FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
UK size 4-5 However this patterns fi ts all foot sizes by knitting to desired foot length as highlighted in the pattern.
*You will need 3 balls of shade A to knit a size above 5.
