MY DESIGN IDEAS AND ADVICE
This was the very first Purl &Jane crocheted garment pattern! It uses the basic crochet stitches – chain, double crochet and treble (UK terms) – all of which I teach in my Purl &Jane Learn to Crochet workshops.

Just like my knitted designs, this crochet pattern uses simple stitches to create a classic, timeless piece you can sit and relax with – something soothing for a restless mind.

The stitch pattern is a little like garter stitch in knitting, as there isn’t really a ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ side. With its gentle three-row repeat, both sides look the same.

Crochet behaves differently to knitting – it doesn’t have the same drape or stretch – so I’ve written the pattern in seven sizes to help you find your perfect fit. You can crochet it with negative ease for a closer, corset-style look, or with positive ease to wear comfortably over a shirt.

CONSTRUCTION
The back and front are crocheted flat from the bottom up in separate pieces and joined together. There are no edges to pick up.

TECHNIQUES USED
UK terms used. Chain, double crochet, trebles. Seams joined together with crochet slip stitch.
