MY DESIGN IDEAS AND ADVICE
I designed this jumper for beginners – or for lazy experienced knitters like me! I love having a project I can just sit down with and switch off. Because I’m usually designing as I knit, I’m always thinking – so I really crave a project where I can enjoy the simple rhythm of one stitch after another.
I also designed it because I love a sloppy joe – something relaxed and comforting to wear, just as soothing to knit as it is to put on. Simple pleasures.
CONSTRUCTION
The back, front and two sleeves are knitted flat from the bottom up in separate pieces and joined together. The sleeves are drop.
TECHNIQUES USED
Cast on, knit, decreasing, increasing, cast off. Optional but recommended to create the feeling of joy when joining your pieces: mattress stitch seaming and three needle cast off.
YARN
7(8:9:10:11) 100g hanks of P &J Yorkshire Yarn Bluefaced Leicester Aran.
100% British Bluefaced Leicester wool, 175m/191yds per 100g
SUGGESTED KNITTING NEEDLES
5mm.
GAUGE (tension)
18 stitches and 32 rows to 10cm/4ins square over garter stitch. I obtained this gauge with 5mm needles.
It is important to obtain the correct gauge so do work a swatch before you start the pattern and change your needle size to achieve the correct gauge if you need to.
FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
I recommend a positive ease of 4-10ins/10-25cm at the chest.
