MY DESIGN IDEAS AND ADVICE
I love moss stitch – the texture it creates is just amazing. I enjoy taking classic stitch patterns and adding something to make them feel a little different. I believe knitting should be simple but effective.
For this jumper, I’ve used my favourite fibre and my favourite stitches. It also shows how easy it is to make the neck your own. Some knitters like a polo neck, some prefer a crew neck and some like something in between – so I’ve included both options to help you create your perfect neckline.
CONSTRUCTION
The back, front and two sleeves are knitted flat from the bottom up in seperate pieces and joined together. The sleeves are drop. The neck edge is picked up and knitted.
TECHNIQUES USED
Cast on, knit, purl, decreasing, increasing, cast off. Joining seams. Optional but recommended to create the feeling of joy when joining your pieces: mattress stitch.
YARN
17(19:19:21) 50g balls of Donegal Aran Tweed
100% Wool, 80m/88yds per 50g
Metres: 1328(1494:1494:1660)m.
SUGGESTED KNITTING NEEDLES
4.5mm and 5mm.
GAUGE (tension)
17 stitches and 32 rows to 10cm/4ins square over moss stitch. I obtained this gauge with 5mm needles.
It is important to obtain the correct gauge so do work a swatch before you start the pattern and change your needle size to achieve the correct gauge if you need to.
