MY DESIGN IDEAS AND ADVICE

This design has a few siblings! I created this hoodie for the same reason that I do many of my patterns…because knitters asked me to! Introducing the hooded version of the Kyle Jumper.

The Kyle Jumper came about after I designed the Gamsber Jumper – a children’s pattern that goes up to age 10. Lots of visitors to the Skipton Studio (ladies and gents alike!) told me they wished it came in adult sizes. I loved being able to say, “It does!” – and now, there’s a hoodie version too.

I’ve seen some fab variations of this knit – especially in Croft Shetland Aran, and stunning ones in Jacobs yarn. It’s always a joy to see how you make each one your own.

CONSTRUCTION
The back, front and two sleeves are knitted flat from the bottom up in seperate pieces and joined together. The sleeves are raglan. The hood is knitted from live
stitches.

TECHNIQUES USED
Cast on, knit, purl, decreasing at the armholes, increasing on sleeves, edging is picked up and knit, cast off. Optional but recommended to create the feeling of joy when joining your pieces: mattress stitch seaming and three needle cast off.

YARN
9(10:10:11) 100g hanks of WYS Bluefaced Leicester Aran.
100% British Bluefaced Leicester wool, 166m/182yds per 100g

SUGGESTED KNITTING NEEDLES
4mm, 4.5mm and 5mm.

NOTIONS
6(6:7:7) Buttons.

GAUGE (tension)
21 stitches and 26 rows to 10cm/4ins square over pattern when slightly stretched. I obtained this gauge with 5mm needles.
It is important to obtain the correct gauge so do work a swatch before you start the pattern and change your needle size to achieve the correct gauge if you need to.

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
I recommend a positive ease of 2-5ins/5-12cm at the chest.
