MY DESIGN IDEAS AND ADVICE
It’s always a challenge to put into words just how much I love a design, but this one is truly special. The Heaton Tank Top features a classic ‘Jane Ellison’ stitch pattern – one of my absolute favourites! I adore this rib pattern, and it works beautifully in this simple, timeless tank top.

The Heaton Tank Top is a unisex design that looks great on all body shapes. It’s knitted in pieces from the bottom up, using just knit and purl stitches, making it a wonderfully relaxing project. If you love this stitch as much as I do, you’ll also find it in the adult’s Ravenscar Jumper and Hubberholme Jumper for children – perfect if you want to explore different ways to enjoy this texture!

CONSTRUCTION
The back and front are knitted flat from the bottom up in seperate pieces and joined together. The neck and armhole edges are picked up and knitted.

TECHNIQUES USED
Cast on, knit, purl, decreasing at the armhole and neck shaping, cast off. Joining seams. Optional but recommended to create the feeling of joy when joining your pieces: mattress stitch and three needle cast off.

SUGGESTED KNITTING NEEDLES

GAUGE (tension)
19 stitches and 26 rows to 10cm/4ins square over wide rib pattern. I obtained this gauge with 5mm needles.
It is important to obtain the correct gauge so do work a swatch before you start the pattern and change your needle size to achieve the correct gauge if you need to.

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
I recommend a no to positive ease of 0-5ins/0-12.5cm at the chest.
