MY DESIGN IDEAS AND ADVICE
The Tenorite Waistcoat is a super easy, no-fuss knit – no stitches to pick up, just a ‘cast on and go’ kind of project! I loved knitting this with two strands of Mohair Tweed DK held together. It creates a lovely, chunky texture, and the little Donegal tweedy flecks sparkle through here and there. It’s such an addictive knit.

Holding two DK strands together gives you a chunky tension, but if you’d prefer not to double up, you can knit it in one strand of Soft Donegal Chunky instead.

I designed the edges to look like they’ve been picked up – but they haven’t! It’s all in the stitch design, which makes this a great option if you’re after something simple that still looks really polished.

It’s also a fun project to experiment with colour – combining different shades gives completely different effects. The photos show Nathrach and Langa (the cream in Croft Shetland DK), but I’ve also paired Nathrach with Coast DK in black for a totally different look.

I named this pattern Tenorite because the little glints of colour reminded me of the coppery glimmers in the Tenorite mineral – the yarn sparkles just like that.

CONSTRUCTION
The back, left front and right front are knitted flat from the bottom up in seperate pieces and joined together. The neck and armhole edges are knitted at the same time as when knitting the back and front so no stitches to pick up.

TECHNIQUES USED
Cast on, knit, purl, decreasing at neck shaping, buttonholes, cast off, sewing on buttons. Joining seams. Optional but recommended to create a joy of joining your pieces: mattress stitch and three needle cast off.

YARN
4(4:5:5:6) 100g balls of Donegal Soft Chunky.
100% Merino Wool, 125m/136yds per 100g
OR 4(5:5:6:6) 50g balls of Mohair Tweed in shade A
70% merino wool & 30% mohair, 110m/120yds per 50g
AND 2(3:3:3:3) 100g hanks of WYS Croft Shetland DK in shade B.
100% Shetland Wool, 225m/246yds per 100g

SUGGESTED KNITTING NEEDLES
6mm.

NOTIONS
4 buttons.

GAUGE (tension)
14 stitches and 20 rows to 10cm/4ins square over pattern. I obtained this gauge with 6mm needles.
It is important to obtain the correct gauge so do work a swatch before you start the pattern and change your needle size to achieve the correct gauge if you need to.

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
I recommend a positive ease of 2-6ins/5-15cm at the chest.
