MY DESIGN IDEAS AND ADVICE
These simple baby bootees are the perfect handmade gift for a brand new bundle of joy! Soft, sweet and full of love, they’re ideal for new knitters or anyone returning to knitting after a break. The pattern is straightforward and gentle – just like the bootees themselves.
They’re also a lovely way to use up less than half a ball of yarn, especially if you’ve just finished knitting baby’s first hand-knit garment. Match them to a cardigan or jumper for a truly personal present – or make them in a rainbow of colours from your leftover yarn stash!
A perfect project to pick up one quiet evening, and a beautiful gift that will be treasured.
CONSTRUCTION
Knitted flat in one piece from the bottom up with one seam.
TECHNIQUES USED
Cast on, knit, increasing, decreasing, simple buttonhole, cast off.
YARN
One 50g ball of WYS Bluefaced Leicester DK – Undyed
100% British Bluefaced Leicester wool, 225m/246yds per 100g
The bootees used approx. 55m
SUGGESTED KNITTING NEEDLES
3.25mm.
NOTIONS FOR SHOE VERSION
Two buttons (size is approx. 6mm in diameter).
GAUGE (tension)
24 stitches and 40 rows to 10cm square over garter stitch. I obtained this gauge with 3.25mm needles.
It is important to obtain gauge so do swatch and change your needle size to achieve the correct gauge if you need to.
SIZE & FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
Baby (length of foot is approx. 8cm)
