Description

MY DESIGN IDEAS AND ADVICE
The Fiona Jumper is inspired by my Fiona Cardigan, a Purl &Jane classic that has been loved and knitted by so many. It was one of the first designs I created for my Skipton studio, and over the years, it has become a go-to cardigan in knitters’ wardrobes.

I often hear from knitters who have made the Fiona Cardigan in multiple shades because it’s such a versatile piece.

The same has happened with the Fiona Jumper – it has been the first garment project for many beginners, and it’s been wonderful to see them grow in confidence and move on to new challenges. But time and again, they come back to the Fiona Jumper as a comfort knit, something simple yet satisfying to make.

I’ve seen this jumper knitted in a variety of natural fibres and colours, each one bringing a fresh take on the design. It’s always exciting to see how knitters make it their own.

CONSTRUCTION
The back, front and two sleeves are knitted flat from the bottom up in seperate pieces and joined together. The sleeves are set in. The neck edge is picked up and knitted.

TECHNIQUES USED
Cast on, knit, decreasing at the armhole and neck shaping, cast off. Optional but recommended to create the feeling of joy when joining your pieces:
mattress stitch and three needle cast off.

YARN
5(6:6:7:7) 100g hanks of WYS Bluefaced Leicester DK – Undyed
100% BlueFaced Leicester Wool, 225m/246yds per 100g
Optional: I used 6g of another shade for the neck edge for the first size.

SUGGESTED KNITTING NEEDLES
4mm.

GAUGE (tension)
22 stitches and 40 rows to 10cm/4ins square over garter stitch . I obtained this gauge with 4mm needles.
It is important to obtain the correct gauge so do work a swatch before you start the pattern and change your needle size to achieve the correct gauge if you need to.

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
I recommend a positive ease of 1-3”/2.5-8cm at the chest.
