MY DESIGN IDEAS AND ADVICE
This is the ultimate easy knitting pattern — perfect if you’re just learning to knit or looking to ease yourself back into it after a break. It’s a true kickstarter… or perhaps more of a gentlestarter! All you need to do is cast on and knit — and by the time you’ve found your rhythm with the needles and yarn, you’ll be ready for the very simple (truly the simplest of simple) buttonholes.
For more experienced knitters, it’s a wonderfully quick project to add a pop of colour to your home. When I redecorated my living room a while ago, I realised that while my sofa still worked with the new colour scheme, it needed fresh cushions to really make it sing. I knitted my Simple Superchunky Cushion in an evening — and had a whole new set of cushions by the end of the week!
CONSTRUCTION
Knitted flat from the bottom up in one piece, folded and then the side seams are joined together.
TECHNIQUES USED
Cast on, knit, buttonholes and cast off. Joining seams. Sewing on buttons. Optional but recommended to create the feeling of joy when joining your seams: mattress stitch.
YARN
Two 100g hanks of Superchunky yarn.
SUGGESTED KNITTING NEEDLES
9mm.
NOTIONS
Cushion pad to fit (suggested size 35cm x 35cm).
4 buttons.
GAUGE (tension)
9 stitches and 20 rows to 10cm square over garter stitch. I obtained this gauge with 9mm needles.
It is important to obtain gauge so do swatch and change your needle size to achieve the correct gauge if you need to.
FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
Approximately 32cm x 72cm.
