MY DESIGN IDEAS AND ADVICE
One of the lovely things about this blanket is that it’s made up of individual squares – so you get that little burst of satisfaction every time you finish one. I like to stack them into neat piles as I go; they look beautiful and it’s a great way to see your progress building.
Each square is a relaxing knit – perfect for picking up when you’ve got a few quiet minutes. Just a row or two between other things can soon add up to a finished blanket!
To knit the blanket as shown in the pattern, you’ll need two hanks of Ecru in Bluefaced Leicester DK and one hank each of Light Brown and Brown.
CONSTRUCTION
Squares knitted flat, corner to corner and joined together.
TECHNIQUES USED
Cast on, knit, increase, decrease, cast off. Optional but recommended to create the feeling of joy when joining your pieces: mattress stitch.
YARN
Two 100g hanks of WYS Bluefaced Leicester DK – Undyed (100% BlueFaced Leicester Wool, 225m/246yds per 100g) in shade A (shade 01 Natural Ecru) and
One 100g hank each of WYS Bluefaced Leicester DK – Undyed in shade B (shade 02 Natural Light Brown) and shade C (shade 03 Natural Brown).
SUGGESTED KNITTING NEEDLES
4mm.
GAUGE (tension)
22 stitches and 42 rows to 10cm square over pattern. I obtained this gauge with 4mm needles. It is important to obtain gauge so do swatch and change your needle size to achieve the correct gauge if you need to.
SIZE AND FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
Each square is 17cm x 17cm.
The photographed blanket is made up of 5 x 6 squares (30 squares in total), with the finished size of approximately 85cm x 102cm.
