MY DESIGN IDEAS AND ADVICE
This basic sock pattern is perfect for beginners learning how to knit their very first pair of socks. For more experienced knitters, it’s a great foundation for creating a bespoke pair – simply lengthen or shorten the leg or foot to suit your style.
The quantities recommended will comfortably make the sock shown in the photograph, with a little left over if you’d like to add some extra length. And with the amazing variety of variegated sock yarns available, this pattern offers an endless source of unique socks – no two pairs ever need to look the same!
CONSTRUCTION
Knitted on double pointed needles in the round in one piece from the cuff down.
TECHNIQUES USED
Cast on, knit, purl, double pointed needles, in the round, decreasing, grafting stitches together. Optional but recommended to create the feeling of joy when joining your stitches: three needle cast off.
YARN
One 100g ball of WYS Signature 4 ply.
75% Wool (contains 35% British BlueFaced Leicester) & 25% Nylon, 400m/437yds per 100g
SUGGESTED KNITTING NEEDLES
2.5mm set of four double pointed needles
GAUGE (tension)
32stitches and 46 rows to 10cm square over stocking stitch. I obtained this gauge with 2.5mm needles.
