If week one was about getting started, week two was definitely about… slowing down a little.

Sometimes a different project calls you in. After a busy week, I found myself drawn to the gentle rhythm of sock knitting – a small, soothing project to calm the mind and steady the hands. There’s something wonderfully reassuring about those tiny stitches, especially when everything else in life feels a bit full.

But knitting doesn’t always go to plan! I got all the way to the toe of the sock when I realised I’d lost a stitch somewhere along the way. So it was off to frogtown again! (For non-knitters, that means unravelling.) Not ideal – but not disheartening either. There’s peace in reknitting what you thought was finished. You already know where you’re going.

During the day I picked up my crochet blanket project, above is how it looked after I started it last Monday, below is how it’s going now. It’s in black and white to tease you. I’ll show you the shades when I’ve finished!

So yes, I’ve been crocheting during the day and then in the evening, it was back to the needles. That mix – crochet by day, knitting by night – helped keep the creative rhythm going without pressure.

Eventually, the sock was finished (with all the stitches in the right place this time!). And with that ticked off, I turned back to my new design: the Max Waistcoat.

There’s something lovely about returning to a project after a pause. I added length, shaped the armholes and reached a little milestone – the back was complete! Pocket linings followed (a satisfying detail to knit), and all of this happened in between conversations with studio visitors, cups of coffee and the everyday ebb and flow of the week.

And then… well, I may have picked up the left front. Or maybe I started a second sock. Who’s to say? Is that a second sock in the photo above?? So yes – Reader, I started the second sock.
That’s the joy of creative work – there’s no set path. Just progress, pauses and a bit of back and forth.

The week ended with a small win: I’ve almost finished a pair of socks and the pattern nearly ready for testing.
Not much progress on the Max Waistcoat this week – but I know the pause has cleared the way for more focused making next week.
