My design ideas and advice: This design is great for beginners to knit their first garter stitch hat and then when they have knitted that they can move onto the stocking stitch version of this hat and practice using purl.
For all knitters, including experienced knitters this hat is fun to play around with different colours mixing the Croft with the Spindrift.
For this pattern I used:
Yarn & Amounts:
short version: One 100g Hank of The Croft Shetland Aran (100% Shetland Island Wool, 166m/182yds per 100g)
& One 25g ball of Jamieson’s Spindrift (100% Shetland Wool, 25g, 105m/114yds)
long version: One 100g Hank of The Croft Shetland Aran
& Two 25g balls of Jamieson’s Spindrift
Needles: 6mm needles.
Gauge (tension): 14 stitches and 28 rows to 10cm square over garter stitch holding one strand of aran and one strand of 4 ply together using 6mm needles.
Size: To fit adult head.
