My design ideas and advice: This simple garter stitch jumper is perfect for beginners or those who are knitting their first baby garment after a while away from knitting. There have been lots of knitters like that who pop into Purl &Jane’s Skipton studio, most have been away for about 30 or 40 years.
This is a great jumper to start with because it is only two squares and then once you’ve knitted them and got your mojo back then the simple increasing on the sleeves will seem easy to do.
Garter stitch is one of my favourite stitches, and one that some overlook calling it “too basic”. However it’s the simplicity that makes it so beautiful, especially when knitted in a gorgeous yarn.
For this pattern I used:
Yarn & Amounts: 2(2:3:3:4) 100g hanks of WYS Bluefaced Leicester DK – Undyed (100% Bluefaced Leicester wool, 225m/246yds per 100g).

Needles: 4mm.
Notions: 2(2:4:4:4) buttons.
Gauge (tension): 22 stitches and 40 rows to 10cm/4ins square over garter stitch using 4mm needles.
