My design ideas and advice: This is a great pattern for beginners who want to play with knit and purl. The blankets knitted in squares with a heart pattern on each square. You are knitting purl within the knit stitches. There are so many different shades you could choose to knit this blanket, or you can keep it very natural and only use three shades of the undyed Bluefaced Leicester DK in ecru, light brown and brown.
You can get quite addicted to this pattern, playing around with different yarns and shades to give to my friends and family to suit their personalities or interiors!
For this pattern I used:
Yarn & Amounts: One 100g hank each of Bluefaced Leicester DK – Undyed (100% Bluefaced Leicester wool, 225m/246yds per 100g) in shade A, shade B and shade C
OR
One 50g ball each of merino cotton (50% merino wool & 50% cotton, 120m/131yds per 50g) in 14 different shades.
I used 14 different shades however you can make up the 14 balls in any sequence you desire – for example 2 balls each of 7 shades or 5 balls each in 2 shades with 4 balls in a third shade.
Needles: 4mm.
Gauge (tension): 22 stitches and 34 rows to 10cm square over pattern using 4mm needles.
Measurements: Each square measures 11.5cm x 12.5cm
The finished blanket size is approx. 57cm x 75cm with the 3 shades
OR approx. 68cm x 87cm with the 14 shades
