Description

MY DESIGN IDEAS AND ADVICE
The Brockabank Jumper combines two of my favourite things – a garter stitch rib and a cable plait. I love this cable and try to use it wherever I can! The rib is another good one because it gives you a row off – there’s a knit row where you can just relax. And with the cable, you get the same effect on the wrong side row, where you don’t need to cable. I think knitting should be relaxing, so this combination works perfectly.

Originally featured in my Knitted with Love book (currently out of print), this pattern is ideal for Bluefaced Leicester aran wool. The smoothness of the fleece with these stitches makes it a joy to knit. The jumper has always been a favourite, and for a while, knitters kept asking me if there was an adult version. I had to say no – until now! There’s finally an adult version available, so if you’ve always wished you could knit one for yourself, now you can. You’ll find the pattern in the Simple Knits book and the adult version is called Portalla.

CONSTRUCTION
The back, front and two sleeves are knitted flat from the bottom up in seperate pieces and joined together. The sleeves are drop shoulder. The neck edge is picked up and knitted. There are buttonholes on one shoulder.

TECHNIQUES USED
Cast on, knit, purl, decreasing at the neck shaping, increasing, two simple cables, cast off, picking up stitches at neck. Sewing on buttons. Joining seams. Optional but recommended to create the feeling of joy when joining your pieces: mattress stitch and three needle cast off.
