My design ideas and advice: I designed this one for the boys, and once again it came back from my knitter and I wanted one! This straightforward pattern has no complicated abbreviations or tricky techniques. I designed it to be floppy but if you prefer the hat to be more like a beanie then you can simply knit it to a shorter length. This is another pattern that has become a Purl &Jane classic. It’s lovely to see when I’m walking around Skipton to see this hat “out in the wild” on people. The best ones are when I recognise the hat but not the person because the knitter had knitted it as a gift to a friend or relative!
For this pattern I used:
Yarn & Amounts: One 100g hank of WYS Bluefaced Leicester Aran – Undyed (100% British Bluefaced Leicester wool, 166m/182yds per 100g).
Metres: 150m.
Needles: 4mm and 5mm.
Gauge (tension): 18 stitches and 24 rows to 10cm square over rib pattern when using 5mm needles.
Size: To fit an average size head.
