Description

MY DESIGN IDEAS & ADVICE
A simple and satisfying project, the Billy Bag is perfect for carrying your knitting—or anything else you fancy! Originally designed using variegated yarns (now sadly discontinued), this bag is a great way to get creative with colour.

If you’ve visited my Skipton Studio, you might have seen my undyed natural version in Jacob Aran – a lovely rustic look. I’ve also helped knitters choose bright shades in Donegal Aran Tweed to create joyful striped versions. And for a totally unique finish, why not use up those odd balls in your stash and mix your own palette?

Fancy trying felting? Just make sure to use natural wool fibres that haven’t been superwash treated so they’ll felt properly.

Whether you go natural, colourful or felted, the Billy Bag makes the perfect bag for carrying your knitting projects!

CONSTRUCTION
Knitted flat in rows, folded in half with side seams joined together.

TECHNIQUES USED
Cast on, knit, purl, cast off. Optional but recommended to create the feeling of joy when joining your pieces: mattress stitch.

YARN
One 100g hank each of WYS Jacob Aran in shade A and shade B
100% Jacob wool, 166m/182yds per 100g

SUGGESTED KNITTING NEEDLES
5mm.

GAUGE (tension)
18 stitches and 24 rows to 10cm/4ins square over stocking stitch.  I obtained this gauge with 5mm needles.
It is important to obtain gauge so work a swatch before you commence the pattern and change your needle size to achieve the correct gauge if you need to.

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
(before felting) 40cm/16ins x 40cm/16ins.
