Week 1 – Weekly Stitches

What this is about

As I mentioned when I introduced this idea in my previous blog post, I knit or crochet almost every day. Not all day (independent shop life means plenty of admin too!) but I always try to fit in a few stitches, even when it’s busy. Knitting is my passion and my career, but it’s also my reset button. Just a few minutes of making can calm the mind and bring everything back into balance. And for the start of this I’m crocheting! I love choosing the shades, that brings glimmers of joy.

That’s what this new weekly series is about – sharing how knitting (or crochet) can fit into the rhythm of everyday life, even when it feels like there’s no time. I hope it inspires you to notice those little pockets of time in your own days too.

Week 1: Starting where we are

As the saying goes: The best time to start something was yesterday, the next best time is today. So although this first week begins partway through, I thought it would be fun to just jump in. (Because as the other saying goes: “Tomorrow never comes!”)

This week was a busy one with a yarn bombing deadline for Yarndale. I’d already finished the main section, but I still needed to make the top piece. So I grabbed the time whenever I could:

  • Wednesday 4pm – 10 minutes before shop admin → managed 2 rounds of crochet.
  • Wednesday 6pm – waiting for someone to arrive → another round done.
  • Thursday 7pm – while the tea cooked → squeezed in a round.
  • Friday evening – 10 minutes before heading out. Played yarn chicken, and won! That “just one round” turned into three as 10 minutes stretched into 15.
  • Weekend – no knitting or crochet, but as it turns out I’d already made the top the right length. Sometimes the pauses are just as useful as the stitches.

Looking ahead

That’s Week 1 of this woolly journey! Each week I’ll share the little moments where knitting fits into my life – the quick rows, the pauses in the day and the longer stretches too. I’d love you to join me, whether that’s in the studio, here on the blog, or over on Instagram and Facebook where I’ll be sharing snippets in Stories.

Gauge Part Two

Eeek, not another one! So soon after the other one too. That’s because the last blog post created a few questions. The main one was… how do I measure my gauge? I’ve created a short video to show how, and I’ve also done a few longer videos like this one

The one about how joyful tension is…

What?? Eek, it’s another one of these blog posts again… the one where some knitters think I am swearing at them or getting too personal, like asking about personal hygiene or something. Classic response: It’s perfectly normal, thank YOU very much and try to walk away. So this might be
