I am knitting the last sleeve of the Philippa Jumper! Yay!
Just one more piece to knit and then it’s the start of the joining process

I do this process in stages and I’ve already completed one of the tasks — I’ve joined together one shoulder. I am very keen to pick up the stitches and knit the neck now but I am holding myself back and going to complete the sleeve before I start the neck.
I am trying to do ‘a first’ and be inspired by those knitters who tell me they only do one project at a time and finish one before they start another one.
Oh my goodness, this last stretch is definitely causing itchy fingers on me. I really want to cast on something new!!
I have a couple of ideas swimming around in my head and I can’t wait to cast them on.
If you are a regular reader, you will already know that I am a process knitter. I love the knitting. I knit for the stitch. And not for the end product – though I do love wearing what I knit – but I enjoy the knitting so much more. I am addicted to the calm that repetitive slow process brings.
So much so that once I’ve stopped knitting one thing I am ready to start the next and sometimes forget about what I’ve just knitted… though that might also be brain fog because I can easily forget why I went into a room!
So I need to remind myself that I have at least five new designs to get laid out (graphically into a pattern) and released for you to knit. Some of these new designs have even been with test knitters already so I really need to get them out to you so you can share the joy of these soothing stitches. As they say nowadays, I should stop gatekeeping!
Saying all that… I’ve just had a delivery of some very exciting new yarn. And I really want to cast on with it.
There are so many beautiful fibres to choose from and I am trying not to gatekeep this yarn too because I love it all and want to knit with it now!
But first I will finish the sleeve and get a new design written up and laid out. I love this new design too. I designed it after chatting to a knitter who popped into the studio looking for something practical to wear at the allotment on these spring days that start off with chilly mornings and turn into warm afternoons! They wanted something warm but without sleeves getting in the way while digging or gardening, and something that would still work under a raincoat as well as when the sun shines.
And that is exactly where wool shines. It keeps you warm when the weather suddenly turns chilly but then helps regulate your temperature as you warm up again. Perfect for these crazy spring days where it’s freezing one moment and warmer the next. You really can’t beat wool for that.
OK… better get on with knitting this sleeve after I’ve started the layout of the new design.
And I must definitely not cast on with these fabulous, exciting new fibres…
I must not.
I must not.
I must not…
