MY DESIGN IDEAS AND ADVICE
Like the Simple Chunky Cowl, this pattern was designed for a Learn to Knit class – this time in 2022. While the cowl uses half one hank each of two shades of Soft Chunky, this scarf uses up both hanks to create a longer project.

I designed it because so many knitters became addicted to the yarn and the knitting that they wanted to carry on and make something longer! The block stripes make it easy to see your progress and give you that lovely sense of achievement. Some knitters told me they loved being able to knit one block over a few evenings or a week – it felt like a mini project within a project. It’s an idea I’ve carried through to many of my beginner scarves.

CONSTRUCTION
Knitted in rows from the bottom up in one piece.

TECHNIQUES USED
Cast on, knit, cast off.

YARN
One 100g hank each of Studio Donegal Soft Chunky in shade A & shade B.
125m/136yds per 100g

SUGGESTED KNITTING NEEDLES
6mm.

GAUGE (tension)
14 stitches and 26 rows to 10cm square over garter stitch. I obtained this gauge with 6mm needles.
It is important to obtain gauge so do swatch and change your needle size to achieve the correct gauge if you need to.

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
Approx. 20cm (wide) x 120cm (long). Garter stitch is “springy” so will drop to a longer length than this over time.
