MY DESIGN IDEAS AND ADVICE
Some of you who know the Purl &Jane patterns well might recognise this one… do you? It’s the same pattern as the Portalla Jumper and the Portalla Cushion. Lana and I had matching
jumpers! Has anyone ever knitted a matching coat for their dog?
I originally knitted this cosy little coat for Lana, my Shorkie, when she was a tiny puppy. She was born during a spell of thick snow – which she absolutely loved! But while she was happy bounding through snowdrifts, I was a little more concerned about her staying warm, so I designed this snug coat to help keep her cosy on winter walks.
Whether your pup loves the snow or just enjoys a brisk stroll, this is a lovely, practical knit to keep them wrapped up and looking adorable.
CONSTRUCTION
Knitted flat from the bottom up in two pieces. Side seams are joined together, leaving enough space for the front legs.
TECHNIQUES USED
Cast on, knit, purl, two simple cable techniques, increasing, cast off. Optional but recommended to create the feeling of joy when joining your pieces: mattress stitch.
YARN
Two 50g balls of Donegal Aran Tweed.
100% Pure new wool, 80m/88yds per 50g
SUGGESTED KNITTING NEEDLES
5mm.
Cable needle (optional).
GAUGE (tension)
25 stitches and 26 rows to 10cm square over cable pattern. I obtained this gauge with 5mm needles.
It is important to obtain gauge so do swatch and change your needle size to achieve the correct gauge if you need to.
FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
To fit small dog/puppy or dachshund.
