MY DESIGN IDEAS AND ADVICE
Bring a little festive cheer with this cosy Christmas jumper – complete with a Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer design that children will love!

This simple and fun pattern uses the intarsia technique to create the reindeer motif. If you’ve never tried intarsia before, this is a great place to start – and if you’re already familiar with it, you’ll find it quick and satisfying to knit in time for the festive season.

The original yarn has been discontinued, but I’ve helped knitters in the studio choose shades in this yarn and it looks just as fab!

CONSTRUCTION
The back, front and two sleeves are knitted flat from the bottom up in seperate pieces and joined together. The sleeves are drop. The neck edge is picked up and knitted.

TECHNIQUES USED
Cast on, knit, purl, slip stitch (mosaic) fair isle and intarsia colourwork, decreasing, increasing, cast off. Joining seams. Optional but recommended to create the feeling of joy when joining your pieces: mattress stitch and three needle cast off.

YARN
4(4:5:6) 50g balls of aran weight yarn in shade A (green).
One 50g ball of aran weight yarn in shade B (brown).
1(2:2:2) 50g ball(s) of aran weight yarn in shade C (red).

Metres for shade A: 248(248:310:372)m.
Metres for shade B: 60m.
Metres for shade C: 62(124:124:124:124)m.

SUGGESTED KNITTING NEEDLES & NOTIONS
5mm.
3(3:3:4) buttons

GAUGE (tension)
18 stitches and 24 rows to 10cm/4ins square over stocking stitch. I obtained this gauge with 5mm needles.
It is important to obtain the correct gauge so do work a swatch before you start the pattern and change your needle size to achieve the correct gauge if you need to.
