MY DESIGN IDEAS AND ADVICE
This pattern was inspired by traditional fisherman’s rib jumpers – but it doesn’t use that stitch. Instead, it uses a simpler two-row repeat. Once you get used to the rhythm, you won’t need to look at the written instructions – just sit back, relax and knit.

Another great thing about this pattern is there are no stitches to pick up at the neck. All the stitches are held on a stitch holder, so you can simply knit across the live stitches.

I designed this version because I have a pattern called the Gamsber Jumper for babies and children up to six years old – and lots of people, ladies and gentlemen, popped into the studio saying they wished it came in adult sizes. I love that I can now say – it does!

This jumper has been knitted and worn by both men and women.

CONSTRUCTION
The back, front and two sleeves are knitted flat from the bottom up in seperate pieces and joined together. The sleeves are raglan. The neck is knitted from live stitches left on holders so no stitches to pick up.

TECHNIQUES USED
Cast on, knit, purl, decreasing, increasing. Joining seams. Optional but recommended to create the feeling of joy when joining your pieces: mattress stitch.

YARN
8(9:10:11) 100g hanks of P &J Yorkshire Yarn Bluefaced Leicester Aran.
100% British Bluefaced Leicester wool, 175m/191yds per 100g

SUGGESTED KNITTING NEEDLES
4mm and 5mm.

GAUGE (tension)
21 stitches and 26 rows to 10cm/4ins square over pattern when slightly stretched. I obtained this gauge with 5mm needles.
It is important to obtain the correct gauge so do work a swatch before you start the pattern and change your needle size to achieve the correct gauge if you need to.

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
I recommend a positive ease of 1-6ins/2-15cm at the chest.
