My design ideas and advice: One of the things I love about designing is making knitters’ dreams a reality – designing the patterns they ask for when they pop into the Purl &Jane Skipton studio. And there have been a few requests for a top like today’s pattern, the Clayton Vest Top. However, I have to admit, this one is pure indulgence for me. It is everything I love about a hand knit. It is a simple, easy to knit stitch pattern in simple shapes that let the yarn drape and do its thing.
It’s one that has been very popular with knitters who pop into the studio. This garment is knitted in pieces with a side seam. I designed it so that the moss stitch edging makes it perfect to join together with the relaxing mattress stitch. As with all my patterns, it is very easy to lengthen or shorten this design to your perfect length.
For this pattern I used:
Yarn & Amounts: 8(10:12:14) 25g balls of Jamieson’s Spindrift (100% Shetland Wool, 105m/437yds per 25g)
Metres: 800(1000:1200:1400)m.
Needles:3mm and 3.25mm.
Gauge (tension): 27 stitches and 36 rows to 10cm/4ins square over stocking stitch using 3.25mm needles.
