MY DESIGN IDEAS AND ADVICE

I’m excited to share this fun project — perfect for starting your crochet journey! I originally designed it with the now discontinued Purl &Jane Supermerino yarn, using two balls each of Shade A and Shade B, with a 12mm hook. It made for a quick, satisfying weekend project for experienced crocheters wanting to add some colour and texture to their winter wardrobe, or a great introduction for beginners learning how to hold the hook and master double crochet. The yarn may be discontinued, but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy making this scarf.

There are plenty of alternatives — my favourite is using two strands of aran yarn held together, just like I did in the Dave the Hat knitting pattern. And of course, the fun of choosing your own colour combinations is endless!

I caught the shade I wasn’t working with up the side of the scarf on every right side row, so I didn’t have to cut the yarn for each stripe. It does show on one side of the scarf but it is hidden away when wearing it in the curl and it does save sewing in the ends.
