MY DESIGN IDEAS AND ADVICE
The materials listed in the pattern are to make one square. One square is just right for the front of a cushion – simply add a fabric back to complete it. If you’d like a square on both sides of the cushion, you’ll need double the amount: two 50g balls each of Shade A and Shade B.
If you’d prefer to make the full blanket shown in the photograph, you’ll need to knit 12 squares in total, which requires twenty-four 50g balls of yarn. After that, it’s up to you how you arrange them – I used a layout of 3 x 4 squares, which gave me a finished blanket size of approximately 160cm x 120cm.
YARN
One 50g ball each of aran weight yarn in shade A and shade B.
This amount is based on 100m per 50g.
SUGGESTED KNITTING NEEDLES
5mm.
GAUGE (tension)
18 stitches and 24 rows to 10cm square over stocking stitch. I obtained this gauge with 5mm needles. It is important to obtain the correct gauge so do work a swatch before you start the pattern and change your needle size to achieve the correct gauge if you need to.
FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
Each square measures 40cm x 40cm.
The materials needed make one square, so if you wish to make a cushion with a fabric back, this is all the yarn you need. If you wish to make a cushion with a square on each side, double the amount you need. Or if you wish to make blanket as in the photograph you need to knit 12 squares.
