Baile Blanket Pattern

This single pattern is available to download.

For this pattern I used:

Yarn & Amounts: Five 50g balls each of Mohair Tweed (70% merino and 30% mohair, 110m/120yds per 50g) in shade A (2604 Silver Bell) and shade B (2617 Mirage).

Metres for Each Shade: Approx.540m.
Total Metres: Approx. 1080m.

My Alternative Yarn Suggestions & Amounts: Illustrious Naturals DK three 100g hanks in one shade and the same in another shade, or WYS Bluefaced Leicester DK – Undyed three 100g hanks in one shade and the same in another shade.

Needles: 4mm.

Gauge (tension): 19 stitches and 36 rows to 10cm square over garter stitch when using 4mm needles.

Size: Each square measures 14cm x 14cm.
The finished blanket size is approx. 84cm x 84cm (6 x 6 squares; 12 of each design).

My design ideas and advice: I could get so addicted to knitting this blanket pattern. I love a simple square. It’s enough to knit in an evening or a weekend, depending on the time you can dedicate to knitting, and that’s enough to make you feel good! And after you’ve knitted the squares you can play aroudn with how you knit them together. This is the one I settled on but there were a few other versions that I could have gone with. I hope you have fun arranging your squares!
This pattern is one of eight pattern that I designed to launch especially at Yarndale 2017 along with the Mohair Tweed which was also just launched that year. The yarn is spun in Donegal so I named all the patterns using Irish words, Baile (BAL-yeh) is the Irish word for place or home. The perfect name for a blanket that makes you feel at home wherever you are.
