Marian Cardigan Pattern

My design ideas and advice: This is a great easy knit cardigan as there aren’t any edges to pick up. You knit the edge as you go so a fab “My first Cardigan” project or a “I love that shade and what a quick knit cardigan” project.
I love designing to knitter’s requests. Sometimes these requests are a desire or dream that might feel that it will never be realised so they let me know just in passing. Or sometimes I ask a knitter what they are looking for and sketch it down to design when I can. I have a very long and ever-changing list!

This v neck cardigan was  one of those requests; a passing comment on a wish as the knitter chose the yarn to knit the Philippa Jumper. There are lots of different shapes that we all need in our wardrobe, or maybe that’s just me! I love a comfy hand knit jumper on winter days to make me feel cosy and warm, like a hug. And then on spring days I love a neat v neck cardigan as the weather decides whether it will be cool or warm, because wool is perfect at regulating heat. In fact, I wear wool all year because the Purl &Jane studio is always cool, no matter what the temperature is outside, and so if it is a warm day outside and cool in the studio my handknits are perfect at regulating my temperature. So I’m planning to wear this cardigan all year round! And then again after I designed this and had it in the studio another knitter said she’d love to have a sleeveless version of this….and here it is, the Matilda Waistcoat!

For this pattern I used:

Yarn & Amounts: 5(6:6:7:7) 100g hanks of WYS Bluefaced Leicester Aran – Undyed(100% Bluefaced Leicester wool, 166m/182yds per 100g).

Metres: 800(960:960:1120:1120)m.

Needles: 5mm.

Notions: One Button.

Gauge (tension): 18 stitches and 24 rows to 10cm/4ins square over stocking stitch using 5mm needles.
