My design ideas and advice: This pattern uses the same diamond cable pattern as the Farrimond Cardigan from my Simple Knits book. I designed this pattern with the history and traditions associated with cables in my mind. The different stitches have different meanings according to fishing folklore. The diamond cable represents the shape of a fishing mesh and therefore wishing a good successful catch. The traditional cable depicts the ropes of their fishing ancestors and promises safety and good luck at sea. I love all this because this represents what knitting is to me, something that is made with love and full of meaning as well as offering the knitter a calming and relaxing journey of creating the most precious gift.
