My design ideas and advice: I designed this cushion for my March 2019 retreat. After a relaxing first day, I felt we could extend our techniques further and so on Sunday the project was a square for a cushion again but this time we covered two techniques: slip stitch and fairisle. The slip stitch seems easy, and it is, but I think it’s magical and it takes a while to get used to the magic. I love the slip stitch technique, it is my favourite colourwork technique. Regular Purl &Jane knitters will recognise some of my patterns which use slip stitch: Charlie Cushion, Spencer Scarf, Emmen Jumper, Aisling Hat and Cara Tank Top. They all look tricky but once you’ve mastered slip stitch, they are super easy and enjoyable.
I designed this cushion first because it uses my favourite technique and mixed it up with fair isle so knitters could see how the different techniques work and look.
