Baby’s First Socks Pattern

£4.50

This single pattern is available as a download.

My design ideas and advice: There is nothing cuter than baby’s feet and hands. So delicate, so small. And there is nothing more special than a hand knitted gift for baby. It is so personal and unique, just like baby.
One of the best things about these socks is that they are perfect for using up any yarn left over from knitting adult socks, meaning you can knit baby *and* mummy, daddy, granny, granddad, a family relative, or yourself a matching socks with the same yarn!
These socks are knitted in the round on dpns.
The pattern has two sizes for newborn and child. These are magical socks and if you follow the 2nd size but change the foot length they will fit children up to 9 years old. I’ve highlighted where to do this in the pattern.

For this pattern I used:

Yarn & Amounts: One 100g ball of Merino 150 4PLY (100% merino wool, 150m/164yds per 50g) OR
One 100g ball of WYS Signature 4 Ply (75% wool, contains 35% British BlueFaced Leicester, and 25% Nylon, 400m/437yds per 100g)

Metres: Approx. 9-10g/35m for the first size and
Approx. 22g/88m for the second size.

Needles: Set of four double pointed 2.5mm needles.

Gauge (tension): 30 stitches and 42 rows to 10cm square over stocking stitch using 2.5mm needles.

Measurements: First size to fit 0-3 months (suggested) with foot length of 8.5cm and
Second size to fit from 9 months (suggested) with foot length of 12cm.
(The second size is a magical size and the cast on amount will fit a child up to 7 years old by adjusting the foot length. I’ve highlighted where to do this in the pattern.)
